Many features, more transparency
Blue Angel eco-labelled printers, copiers or multifunction devices all have one common advantage: their contribution to indoor air pollution at the workplace or in private households is particularly low. In order to being awarded the Blue Angel eco-label devices must meet strict requirements for material selection and recyclable design. Last but not least, low-pollutant materials are used in the plastic parts, thus, reducing possible harm to the environment and health risks. In addition, low energy consumption also helps to protect the climate.
The new DE-UZ 205 Basic Criteria for Office Equipment with Printing Function were adopted by the Environmental Label Jury in December 2016. The application papers have been available since June 2017. Since then, manufacturers haven been able to file their applications for award of the Blue Angel eco-label on the basis of the new DE-UZ 205 criteria. During a transition period ending December 31, 2017 the Blue Angel eco-label for Office Equipment with Printing Function can still be awarded or used, respectively, on the basis of the DE-UZ 171 criteria. Therefore, we would like to point out that products currently certified on the basis of the DE-UZ 171 criteria continue to meet the current requirements.
Please note that owing to the high number of applications received under DE-UZ 205, especially for appliances that have already been certified under DE-UZ 171, we are currently unable to guarantee that a final decision on the application and hence a certification can be made within the normal processing time of about 2 months. This being said, current invitations to tender should require a presentation of the Blue Angel on the basis of DE-UZ 171 while a presentation of the Blue Angel on the basis of DE-UZ 205 should not be required before the beginning of next year. Owing to the fact that the processing times are currently longer than usual a manufacturer who files an application under DE-UZ 205 but cannot prove the final certification should also be taken into due consideration in the tender processes from 2018.
