The ceremony for the German Environmental Award in Chemnitz on 26 October 2025 was the first event to receive the ecolabel “Blue Angel for events”. With its comprehensive sustainability concept, the DBU is setting new standards for environmentally friendly events in Germany.

The Blue Angel for events recognises events that uphold high environmental standards. The criteria assessed include the use of climate-friendly mobility, a resource-efficient energy supply, sustainable catering and waste avoidance.

German Federal Minister for the Environment Carsten Schneider highlighted: “The Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt demonstrates that high-quality events and consistent environmental protection can go hand in hand. The German Environmental Award is one of Europe’s most renowned environmental protection awards. By adopting a consistently environmentally friendly approach, the DBU is making its award ceremony a prominent pioneer and drawing attention to an important cause. The demand for sustainable event management has been growing for years – with the Blue Angel for events, there is now an objective seal of quality with clear criteria. Anyone planning an environmentally friendly event is provided with a reliable guide. And for providers of sustainable event, the seal can become a competitive advantage.”
