Although people living in our climate spend most of their time indoors, either at the office or at home, they rarely associate the quality of the indoor air with their well-being and comfort. This is despite the fact that some ingredients in wall paints and furnishings can increase the concentrations of pollutants in the indoor air completely unnoticed – especially if they have been used to cover large surfaces.

Blue Angel on Tour
Blue Angel at the Environmental Festival and the Ökofete
At two stops so far - the Environmental Festival in Berlin and the Ökofete in Leipzig - visitors were able to find out facts and figures about the ecolabel on information boards. The large wing wall also attracted the attention of many curious guests. Here, visitors became visible as environmental angels by taking pictures of themselves in front of a large wing wall. At the paper-making station, visitors could make their own environmental angels from recycled paper and learn how recycled paper is made.

Results of the Environmental Label Jury meeting in June 2023
The Environmental Label Jury decided at its summer meeting on criteria for five new product groups to be awarded the Blue Angel ecolabel:
-
Heat pumps
-
Liquid coolers
-
Foam and water fire extinguishers
-
Structural waterproofing made of liquid plastics
-
Event catering and canteen operation
Did you know that the Blue Angel also focuses on the health assessment of products?
The ecolabel takes a holistic view of the product life cycle - from production and use to disposal and recycling. The aim is to identify the crucial environmentally relevant areas for each product group where significant environmental and health impacts can be reduced or even avoided. In the criteria, the ecolabel for instance sets requirements for the substances contained. This is to avoid pollutants in the product as far as possible and to reduce emissions of harmful substances into soil, water, air and indoor spaces.
