Despite a clear trend towards greater consumption of digital media, which has also led to fundamental changes in journalism and publishing, physical printed products are still a familiar sight on our bookshelves to this day and can be found on newspaper stands at newsagents or in bookshops. As trees are a vital resource and also the source of the pulp used to produce the paper, it is even more important that these different types of printed matter are produced in the most environmentally friendly way possible.

A real hit for the environment! The Blue Angel has already visited festivals in Berlin, Neustrelitz, Leipzig and Stuttgart this summer. Festivalgoers were invited to test their skills in a ring throwing game and also test their knowledge by answering some questions in an environmental quiz.

Software and hardware belong together like a book and its pages. A computer, notebook and smartphone can only be as energy efficient as the software allows. Although it is the hardware that consumes energy, it is the software that triggers the consumption of this energy. The design of the software and its programming also have an influence on the hardware specifications and are thus also responsible for the replacement of supposedly less powerful hardware.

The Environmental Label Jury starts a new term of office
Katharina Istel from NABU and Prof. Dr. Mario Schmidt from Pforzheim University / Institute for Industrial Ecology (INEC) were once again elected as Chairpersons of the Environmental Label Jury for the new term of office. The members of the Environmental Label Jury met in this constellation for its summer meeting in Mainz – the state capital of Rhineland-Palatinate – in June.

Webinar recording ‘Sustainable Events with the Blue Angel’
The aim of the Blue Angel for Events is to certify events that offer clear ecological advantages over conventionally organised events. The criteria focus on reducing CO₂ emissions, circular economy aspects like resource efficiency and minimizing waste, but also social aspects.
The webinar on 26 June 2025 presented the criteria for certification, how to use the software to manage the compliance verification and the application process.
