The transition to sustainability is one of the central future tasks of our time. A key factor for the success of this challenging process is the broad participation of citizens. This is where the work of the North Rhine-Westphalia Foundation for Environment and Development comes in. It promotes civic engagement for sustainable development and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - the United Nations' global goals for sustainable development.

Every year, the foundation supports around one hundred new projects. Since it was established by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in 2001, we have supported around 2.000 civic projects. We not only provide financial support to full-time employees and volunteers from a wide variety of fields of engagement, but also effectively promote their ideas for sustainability through advice, networking opportunities and practice-oriented training measures.
