The cooperation between the certified label holder FairCup and the family-run company Bergmann already started in Thuringia last year. Drinks are sold in FairCup cups at all 50 branches of the bakery. Customers are informed about the Blue Angel and FairCup via displays installed at the sales counter. Stickers on the windows also make people outside the bakery aware of the offer and also demonstrate that the Bergmann bakery supports reusable items and is committed to sustainability. Both the environment and customers benefit as a result.

About FairCup
The start-up FairCup based in Göttingen supplies reusable cups, lids and bowls that are provided to customers using a deposit system. The cups are available in various sizes and are not only suitable for hot beverages but also for salads, shakes and desserts.

The cups from FairCup can be reused up to 1,000 times and do not contain any softening agents, BPA, melamine and resins, which means that the material can be fully recycled at the end of its life. The cups can be returned at all cafés, snack bars, petrol stations, bakeries, etc. participating in the system, as well as at enabled bottle return machines. The start-up also ensures that the transport processes are designed in an environmentally friendly way: Unnecessary transport is avoided because the cups are produced 100% in Germany.

About the Blue Angel
The Blue Angel has been the ecolabel of the German federal government for more than 40 years and the guide for sustainable purchasing. It is an independent and credible label that sets stringent standards for environmentally friendly products and services. The Blue Angel guarantees that the products or services it certifies meet high standards when it comes to its environmental, health and performance characteristics. The whole life cycle of the product or service is always taken into account in the assessment process. Criteria are developed for each product group and must be complied with by those products and services holding the Blue Angel. In order to reflect any technological developments, the German Environment Agency checks the criteria every three to four years. This ensures that companies are required to make their products even more environmentally friendly over time.
