New environmental label:
Underwater coatings and other antifouling systems

The submerged part of a ship – the hull – will over time become overgrown with water organisms such as algae, barnacles or muscles. This fouling increases the frictional resistance of the ship, which reduces the speed and increases fuel consumption. In addition, fouling can damage the hull itself or effect the manoeuvrability of the ship.

Christoph Eßer-Ayertey, Head of RAL Environment, awarded the Blue Angel certificate to the company last Saturday (9 April 2022) at the “Green World Tour” sustainability trade fair in Frankfurt am Main. das Unternehmen.

Separate collections for used textiles will be compulsory across Europe from 2025. But what should happen to these textiles? Kristin Stechemesser from the Blue Angel Team provided input from the perspective of the German Environment Agency and the Blue Angel for Textiles. Other participants from Germany and the Netherlands included textile manufacturers, retailers, mail order companies, recyclers and representatives from the world of politics.

“It was important to me that we use recycled paper for such a huge number of books to avoid so many trees being felled (…).

One easy way to help protect the environment is to purchase products made out of recovered paper. This is because recycled paper not only conserves our forests but also protects the climate and helps to reduce waste. 

Mobile phones that are awarded the Blue Angel must comply with a comprehensive range of criteria according to DE-UZ 106 – focussing on e.g. their durability, energy saving properties, testing of pollutants, low levels of emissions or recyclable design – in order to carry the ecolabel. The strict requirements are developed and regularly examined by the German Environment Agency.

Wenn man darüber nachdenkt, erscheint es nur logisch, dass das „Salzen der Straße“ oft nicht ohne Folgen bleibt. Am Straßenrand wachsende Pflanzen können davon geschädigt oder sogar verätzt werden, während das gesalzene Schmelzwasser den Boden Jahr für Jahr weiter mit Streusalz anreichert. Und auch bei empfindlichen Tierpfoten führt das aggressive Salz schnell zu wunden Stellen und Entzündungen. Selbst massive Materialien von Autos, Häusern und allem, was sonst noch so auf der Straße steht, bleiben nicht unberührt.
