Environmentally Friendly Wall paints (DE-UZ 102)

“Wall paints are used extensively in interior spaces. That is why it is important that the products have low emissions and are also harmless to health in other ways. The Environmental Label Jury decided on the new criteria for interior wall paints at the December 2018 meeting. The most important change is that interior wall paints awarded the Blue Angel label may no longer contain preservatives with biocidal ingredients. The paint manufacturers must provide analytical proof of this. The information on the containers and/or in the technical information sheet contains further instructions for the protection of consumers, such as “Wear safety glasses if there is a risk of splashing” and “If the base paint or a wall paint is tinted with a pigment paste that does not conform to Blue Angel, the tinted paint no longer meets the criteria of the Blue Angel”. As these new requirements for even safer products require extensive changes in production, the Environmental Label Jury decided in December to extend the currently valid award criteria until 31 December 2020 in compliance with the moratorium of December 2017. This gives manufacturers the opportunity to change the formulation of their interior wall paints to be preservative-free.”
