Energy-Efficient Data Center Operation

Resource-conscious service companies help protect our climate

Servers and data centres consume more than 9.1 TWh annually, with a tendency to rise. Also contributing to this consumption is the increased use of central IT resources, cloud computing and social networks. The Blue Angel eco-label may be awarded to resource-conscious companies committed to the implementation of a long-term strategy aiming at improving the energy and resource efficiency of their data center with respect to the IT services to be delivered and conducting regular monitoring to optimize the data center operations. The Blue Angel eco-label provides the demand side (public sector or industry) with a reliable means of selecting ecological criteria when calling for bids for external data center services.

Notice for Application: To get a clear picture of the current state of the data center operations the applicant may choose either to complete Annex 2 or to use the online platform of Technische Universität Berlin, Department of Information and Communication Management (as is recommended).
