With about 20 percent the transport sector accounts for a significant share of CO2 emissions in Germany (2011: 156 million tons). For health and environmental protection as well as for urban planning purposes it is therefore advisable to develop new offers that would render private car ownership superfluous. Multimodal mobility concepts, such as, for example, mobility cards, combine different transportation services and can be an environmentally sound alternative for providing solutions to individual mobility needs. The Blue Angel eco-label for mobility cards combines different mobility components and flexible offers to allow sustainable mobility without private car ownership.
Benefits to Environment and Health
- Environmental relief by reducing CO2 emissions compared to private car use, as well as reduced emissions of air pollutants, such as nitrogen oxides, particulate matter etc.
- Reduction of other negative effects of transport, such as noise, consumption of resources and parking space demand etc.
