External thermal insulation composite systems help to protect the climate – but are they environmentally friendly in other respects as well and should they be recommended?

Exterior wall fires, environmentally hazardous flame retardants, rainwater contamination due to biocides leaching from plasters for external thermal insulation composite systems as well as Styrofoam insulation as future hazardous waste – there are numerous press reports that put these topics in contrast to the climate protection benefits of thermal insulation. However, exterior wall insulation is often the most effective way for the consumer to contribute effectively to climate protection. In the long run, this even saves money. The use of Blue Angel eco-labelled external thermal insulation composite systems helps to minimize possible environmental impacts so that the benefits for climate protection strongly outweigh the negative impacts.
