Protecting the climate while surfing the Web or talking on the phone

Today, it is hard to imagine private households without access to the Internet. 72 percent of all Germans use the Internet most of whom use broadband access. To gain access to the Internet the user needs networking equipment that is connected around the clock to the telephone and data networks. The Blue Angel eco-label may be awarded to routers that, offering the same capacity, operate highly energy-efficient and, where appropriate, provide additional functions, as, for example, Wireless LAN (WLAN routers) for wireless access to the Internet as well as so-called broadband routers. In addition, the routers are technically adaptable so that even if the Internet service provider changes the user will be able to continue to use the equipment.
