Cooking for Climate Protection
Cooking and baking with gas is eco-friendlier than cooking with electricity because, here, a so-called primary energy carrier i.e. natural gas is directly used to generate heat. In contrast to this, electricity is a secondary energy carrier that must first be produced from primary energy carriers, such as coal or gas. More than 60 percent of the original energy is already lost in the production of electricity. During the subsequent conversion from electricity to the heat required for cooking another 10-40% is lost depending on the type of cooktop. Cooking with gas is also easy on the wallet. Yet, it should be noted that the individual household is bound to the regionally available energy carrier and that gas-fired cookers are only suitable for limited use. Hence, it is planned to also develop Basic Award Criteria for energy-efficient electric cookers and electric cooking plates at a later date.
