The EU Ecolabel

The ecolabel scheme of the European Communities for greener products and services was launched in 1992 – the EU Ecolabel. Supporting organizations of the EU Ecolabel are the European Commission and the 27 Member States of the European Union (EU).

The EU Ecolabel is an important Community instrument for environmental protection and gains added significance in the promotion of sustainable consumption in Europe.
It enables consumers in the 27 member states of the EU as well as in Norway, Liechtenstein, Iceland and Switzerland to recognize environmentally friendly products and services by means of a common eco-label that looks the same in all member states.

In addition, the EU Ecolabel has become an important orientation aid for eco-friendly procurement of the public authorities in Europe.

The EU Ecolabel is awarded to products and services of daily use – except for foods, beverages and drugs.
